Tonight we lost a companion. One that has been in my life for 20 years, and in more recent history had become the closest animal companion to my two boys. She had been with me from the beginning of my independent life. She was the first addition to my first apartment after leaving home. I was so broke i had a cardboard box covered with a blanket for a coffee table but when a visiting a friend down the street who’s cat had kittens, all spoken for except the runt of the litter – a little orange fur ball – when i saw her i simply had to take her home. She has been there for every step of my adult life, kept me grounded through the fringes, and i cant thank her enough for the lesson she recently has taught my boys; the joy of animal companionship.
